WP 3.1: New spectroscopic and thermogravimetric methods for determining manure composition and degradability

Fellow (ESR): George Bekiaris, UCPH

George has a Bachelor/ Master in Agricultural Science and a Master in Biotechnology, both from the Faculty of Agriculture University of Athens, Greece. During his Master, he gained experience in the use of spectroscopic methods for the discrimination of different species and strains of edible mushrooms.

His PhD focuses on the development of new spectroscopic techniques for the chemical characterization of manure feedstock. He is using Fourier transform infrared photoacoustic spectroscopy and X-ray near edge structure spectroscopy for the characterization of manure in terms of phosphorus, nitrogen and carbon speciation, and multivariate analysis for creation of models for the prediction of assays of nitrogen and carbon mineralization and phosphorus plant availability.ltural University of Athens, Greece.
