WP 5.1: Development of anaerobic digestion methods for optimal energy yield and P recovery from animal manure production

Phuong has a background in Environmental management and completed a joint Master program in Waste management and contaminated site treatment between Dresden University of Technology and Hanoi University of science in 2011.

Her PhD project aims to develop new anaerobic digestion methods for optimal energy yield and nutrient use from animal manure. The idea is to use the segregated faeces of piggery waste that is high in dry matter content as the feedstock for digester. Currently, she is performing the first experiment to evaluate the biogas production potential and nutrient speciation of segregated faeces. Afterward, she will test the effects of thermal chemical pre-treatment of segregated faeces and thermal post-treatment of digestate on biogas yield and digestate composition. The developed anaerobic digestion process then will be validated by experiment with continuous stirred tank reactor.
