WP 5.3: Optimal combustion and gasification technology for on-farm conversion of animal manures to energy and ash 

Fellow (ESR): Daya Shankar Pandey, ULIM

Daya has a Mechanical engineering background and completed Masters of Technology in Energy studies with honors from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, India.  During his postgraduate study in IIT Delhi, he worked on thermodynamic simulation of back-firing phenomenon in Internal Combustion (IC) engine. His research interest is of interdisciplinary nature specially in the field of combustion, emission control, alternative fuel & renewable and sustainable energy.

He worked as a senior engineer (Mechanical) in project execution department of Brahmaputra Cracker & Polymer Limited (A Petrochemical project) Assam, India.  Prior to joining ULIM, he was associated with the Chair of Mechanical Process Engineering research group in Martin-Luther-University, Halle (Salle) Germany as an assistant researcher.

His PhD work focuses on the development of Thermodynamic equilibrium-based models of gasification and combustion process for manure based biomass and optimizing syn-gas production while focusing on improving energy and P recovery. He is investigating the effect of temperature in the fluidized bed gasifiers (FBG), moisture content, equivalence ratio, steam to biomass ratio (SBR) on syngas composition and quality of product gas.
